John now focuses on insurance solutions for filmmaking professionals. James Short is the sole proprietor of Inwood Road films as of 2024.
James Short
James founded Inwood Road Films in 2016 with his brother, John, with whom he has invested in and/or produced six independent films across both narrative features and documentaries. Their films include the 2019 Tribeca Film Festival Audience Award Winner, Plus One, starring Jack Quaid and Maya Erskine, and The Dark & The Wicked from acclaimed writer/director Bryan Bertino (The Strangers), an official selection for the 2020 Tribeca Film Festival. James also served as a co-producer on the docuseries, Year Zero, executive-produced by Kathryn Bigelow and an official selection at the 2022 Tribeca Film Festival.
A native Texan and extensive world traveler, James spent his career as an entrepreneur and executive in the digital media space. He has founded or been a co-founder of four companies that exited either by acquisition or merger, including IAC’s acquisition of Market Hardware in 2009, and most recently, RevNew Digital’s acquisition by OnCore Digital Inc. in 2022.
INWOOD ROAD FILMS
INWOOD ROAD FILMS produces and invests in independent narrative features, documentary features and documentary series. Projects including PLUS ONE, produced by Red Hour Films and Studio71, starring Jack Quaid and Maya Erskine, and BURN, starring Josh Hutcherson and Suki Waterhouse, released in 2019. They were producers on the feature film, CONFESSIONAL, along with Bold Soul Media and Attic Light Films, starring Paris Berelc and Marcus Scribner, released on SHUDDER in 2020. Their most recent projects include THE DARK & THE WICKED from acclaimed writer/director Bryan Bertino (THE STRANGERS and THE MONSTER), and THE HERRICANES, a documentary based on the Houston Herricanes women’s football team. The film premiered at SXSW in 2023 and won the Audience Award in the Documentary Spotlight category, as well as the Louis Black “Lone Star” Special Jury Award.
